This week’s segment features Catfish the 6 year old Boston Terrier and discusses our October 2025 Orthopedic Special!!! 🩻 Catfish came to us when her owner noticed that she was holding up one of her legs and skipping when she walked and ran. Upon physical examination we were able to determine that Catfish had an abnormality in her knees called medial patella luxation. Medial patella luxation (MPL) is a common orthopedic condition, especially in small breed dogs, where the kneecap (patella) slips out of its normal groove and shifts toward the inside of the knee. This can cause signs such as skipping or hopping on one leg, lameness that comes and goes, stiffness after rest, or reluctance to jump and run. Over time, repeated luxation can lead to pain, cartilage wear, and arthritis. Diagnosis is made during a physical exam, and X-rays are often taken to check for joint changes. Mild cases may be managed conservatively, but moderate to severe MPL typically requires surgical correction to realign the patella and improve stability of the knee joint. Here at Emerson Animal Hospital for the month of October we will be offering 10% off of our orthopedic surgeries. This includes our medial patella luxation, cranial cruciate repair and femoral head ostectomy. Give us a call at (662)524-4155 to get your pet scheduled for their orthopedic procedure! 🐾
