This week’s segment features Glinda the 16 week old Polish chicken!!
Bringing home new chickens is exciting, but a new flock addition should always start with a veterinary wellness visit. Even healthy-appearing birds can carry underlying issues, and early evaluation helps set them up for a long, productive, and comfortable life. A new chicken visit allows us to assess overall health, nutrition, housing, and biosecurity to support both your birds and the rest of your flock.
During these visits, we screen for internal and external parasites, which are common in backyard poultry and can easily spread if left untreated. Parasites can cause weight loss, decreased egg production, anemia, lethargy, and illness that may not be obvious at first. Identifying and treating these issues early helps prevent outbreaks and keeps your flock healthier as a whole.
A comprehensive wellness exam also gives us the opportunity to catch subtle problems early and provide guidance on proper care, diet, and preventative health. Just as importantly, establishing a relationship with your avian veterinarian creates a trusted resource when questions or concerns arise. Having that relationship in place before an emergency ensures quicker care, better outcomes, and peace of mind as you enjoy your chickens!
