This week’s segment features Baxter the 9 year old corgi mix!!! 🐾 Baxter came in for his routine annual physical exam and several masses were noted on his exam. Any mass/tumor that grows on your pet should be evaluated by a veterinarian. Masses can grow from any tissue and may or may not be of a cancerous origin. Many times, we can begin with a needle biopsy which is performed in the office where a small needle is inserted into the mass to remove some cells or a small piece of tissue. That tissue is then placed on a slide and a pathologist can help determine the type of mass and if there is evidence of cancer or not within the same day. In Baxter’s case due to the size of the tumors we elected to pursue surgical removal of his masses and thankfully none of them were cancerous! If you notice a growth on your pet of any size, give us a call at (662)525-4155 so that we can get it evaluated and come up with a management plan!! 🐾
