This week’s segment features Sippi, Dr. Janzen’s 8-year-old chihuahua, and discusses our dental special for February!!! 🦷For the month of February, we will be offering 20% off of our cat and dog dentals!! Dental disease is one of the most common health issues in pets, and it often goes unnoticed until it becomes painful or severe. Routine professional dental cleanings help prevent infection, tooth loss, and the spread of bacteria that can affect the heart, kidneys, and other vital organs. Keeping your pet’s mouth healthy is a key part of their overall well-being.
Each dental procedure is carefully planned with your pet’s safety and comfort as the top priority. IV catheterization allows us to administer fluids and medications efficiently and provides immediate access in case of an emergency. Intubation protects the airway and ensures your pet can breathe safely while under anesthesia, while continuous anesthesia monitoring tracks heart rate, blood pressure, oxygen levels, and temperature throughout the procedure.
Once your pet is fully asleep, ultrasonic scaling is used to remove plaque and tartar from the teeth, including below the gumline where bacteria cause the most damage. The teeth are then polished to smooth the enamel, helping slow future plaque buildup. Dental probing allows us to assess each tooth for signs of gum disease, infection, or bone loss that can’t be seen on the surface. If damaged or infected teeth are found, medically necessary extractions are performed to relieve pain and prevent further complications.
