This week’s segment features Tiny the 17 year old chihuahua!!! πΎπ Tiny came to us when his owners noticed that his eye appeared enlarged and was causing him discomfort. Upon examination and measuring the pressure in Tiny’s eye it was found that he was suffering from glaucoma. Glaucoma is a painful eye condition caused by increased pressure inside the eye, often due to poor fluid drainage. Common causes include genetics (especially in breeds like Cocker Spaniels, Basset Hounds, and Shiba Inus), eye injuries, inflammation (uveitis), tumors, or lens dislocation. It can lead to vision loss or even blindness if not treated promptly. Signs include eye redness, cloudiness, squinting, tearing, or a visibly enlarged eye. Treatments range from medications to reduce pressure to surgical options in severe cases. Unfortunately in Tiny’s case his glaucoma was unresponsive to medical management so an enucleation (surgical removal of the eye) was performed. After surgery Tiny recovered well and is back to his normal active self! π
