This week’s segment features Mushu the 2 year old Bearded Dragon!! 🦎Mushu presented to us for a large mass that was growing on his upper eyelid for a few weeks and was getting larger. Upon examination we found that the mass was occupying the majority of the eyelid. After we tried medical management and were unable to reduce the size of the eyelid mass, we elected to take Mushu to surgery to remove the tumor. After a delicate procedure to remove the entirety of the upper left eyelid and a small mass on the right eyelid as well, Mushu recovered well from surgery. Initially he was receiving eye drops to help keep his eye lubricated since he no longer had the eyelid to help him blink, but over time he learned to bring his lower eyelid up to be able to completely close his eye. Mushu is no longer in need of the eye drops and has recovered from his surgery completely. It is vital in our smaller reptile and exotic patients that when masses on any part of the body are noticed that they are addressed and removed promptly. Unfortunately in many cases there is less extra tissue that allows us to have the ability to close incisions and larger masses can result in longer and more difficult recoveries. If you notice any masses on your reptiles, exotic pets or even cats and dogs give us a call today at (662)524-4155 to have them examined!! 🦎
